We never wanted this fight to come to this, and asking for support is not something we take lightly.

Over the past year, we've made a significant financial commitment defending the right to carry out the same routine sand maintenance our family — and others in Cannon Beach — have relied on for generations. That has included a full contested-case hearing with three days of witness examination, and more fees lie ahead on appeal — all to protect private property rights and local government authority. We've reached the point where we cannot do it alone.

This case is about far more than one home. The outcome could affect every coastal property owner — and, frankly, any property owner subject to state agency oversight — along with the neighbors who depend on reasonable sand management to protect their homes, preserve beach access, and keep our shared spaces safe and usable.

If this precedent stands, it could make it impossible for families across Cannon Beach — and set a marker for property owners across Oregon — to continue the responsible upkeep that has helped our community coexist with the dunes for decades.
